Cronos: The New Dawn

Image
Cronos: The New Dawn Contains spoilers ! “Such is our calling.”                I started playing Cronos: The New Dawn right after I had finished Alan Wake 2 and I always thought I needed a break from survival horror. Cronos was such an engaging and challenging game that it kept me going despite my depletion and reduced appetite for jumpscares and frustrated sewer-like areas with disgusting enemies. Cronos: The New Dawn is a new IP developed and published by Bloober Team, the very same team that gave us Silent Hill 2 Remake which was top-notch, so my expectations were sky high for this game. Cronos is a mash up of Dead Space, Resident Evil and Silent Hill 2 Remake. While it hasn’t reached the heights of any of those franchises, I would say that this new bold idea worked, and Cronos did offer a chilling third-person survival horror experience. Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake 2 Contains spoilers ! “The writer of the first word, not the writer of the last With the terror of the light and the shadows cast The third eye now open to project the night This is the moment to write This is the ritual to lead you on Your friends will meet him When you are gone”                I played Alan Wake Remastered a while back and I remember having a blast. The gameplay, albeit a bit repetitive and glitchy at times, was fun, the story was linear but engaging and immersive. The first game followed the titular protagonist, Alan Wake, a writer who just needed a long well-deserved break from writing. He arrives at Bright Falls, a fictional town in the Pacific Northwest of Washington State with well-known beautiful landscapes. He is accompanied by his wife, Alice, who gets abducted at the very beginning of the game. Alan follows his wife into the darkness and finds himself in a supernat...

Detective Instinct: Farewell, My Beloved

Image
Detective Instinct: Farewell, My Beloved Contains light spoilers ! I do not usually engage with visual novels although perhaps I should more. Detective Instinct: Farewell My Beloved is an indie visual novel game developed and published by Armonica LLC. I saw the visuals on Twitter/X and Reddit and it immediately caught my eye. After the deafening fog of Silent Hill 3, I decided to play a light-hearted game and I am glad I did. Story/Gameplay The game opens with a man in an autumn-yellow suit walking down the autumn-colored street. The game doesn’t wait for the punch line, and we see that the sad-looking man gets thrown off a window at a hotel, with a wound in his abdomen and he lies in the gutter, dead. Next, we hear door knocks and a young man is sleeping in his hotel room. It’s the police! We immediately help the teenager in his pajamas get up and open the door to a cop who is mad and anxious to capture us in connection with the murder of that man we saw earlier. It turns...

Silent Hill 3

Image
Silent Hill 3 Spoilers a plenty! Such a delight to go back to the horrors of Silent Hill 3 after playing Silent Hill f which I had enjoyed very much. I had to take a break from the pretentious arguments, on both sides of the aisle, revolving around the Clair Obscur game… I have known all the Silent Hill games to a degree, but I have not played all of them myself. Silent Hill 3 is, overall, a fine addition to the series, and provides a closure to Harry Mason’s adventure that started in the very first game. I had a great time with it, although I think the game is rather short. SH3 does not have the same emotional heft as SH2 and perhaps given how gruesome and tragic SH2’s story was, SH3 decided to add some comic relief and turn its gaze to Silent Hill’s famous underground occult and its alluring mystery once more. Story The Lakeside Amusement Park by the Toluca Lake of Silent Hill cuts the ribbon and introduces us to a confused teenager, Heather Mason, wearing a white jacket with a...

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Image
Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Review   Spoilers a plenty! “It is the best game ever.” + “Rejoice! RPGs have been revived!”   vs. “I just enjoyed this great game.” + “It is Game of the Year for me.”   After a long month, I finally finished Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (E33). I did not 100% the game, as in "do all side quests and collect everything", I tried most of the side quests, I could not do all of them. Before you, the reader, goes any further, allow me to say this: I will hold nothing back in terms of criticism. It does not help if no one speaks their mind and most of my opinions are subjective but I will try to put them into perspective and be as objective as possible. So, if you can’t stand any bad words about anything related to E33, leave now. I respect your opinions and feelings, if put in a reasonably humane manner, but I do not wish to make anyone feel bad because I don’t agree with them. If you do leave, come back, and say hello to another rev...
